This was recorded on the same day, in the same studio, as New Moon. I wanted to create a similar vibe on this recording as I did on that one presenting the music as it was played alone in my kitchen during the Pandemic years. While they are two very different releases, released by different projects, they are, in a way, companions. On that note, The Rainy Day should be viewed as a prequel to New Moon. Irish fluting forms the bedrock to my years as a folk singer; my interest in Irish trad drew my attention to the wider world of folk music.

I first discovered Irish trad in 2003 when I was 14 and took up the tin whistle that year and then the flute the year after. I am releasing this EP 2 days before my 34th birthday on my 20th year of playing Irish music. Just as New Moon was my first release of solely original music, this is my first release of solely Irish flute music. The tunes on this collection are favorites of mine that I have been playing for many years. Any aficionado of Irish trad music will recognize most, if not all, of the tunes here. I did not set out to reinvent the wheel with this recording, rather, I set out to invite the listener into my kitchen as I play a few tunes while we shelter from the storm. Through-out the past 20 years I have often found this music to be my shelter from the storms life has thrown at me, and, it is my sincere hope that those who listen to this recording can find the same solace in this music that I have.
